Canvassing nominations for the Wackrow Memorial Award, siting a sign to publicise events in Dannevirke, running a Spring Festival, planning a Dannevirke October Market Day, keeping tabs on a potential railway hub, investigating the location of a new skate park, helping with the completion of the Adelaide Road Walkway, following the plight of Route 52, publicising Saddle Road closures — the list of activities involving the four members of the Dannevirke Community Board.
This month the Community Board is holding coffee mornings each Tuesday morning in July from 10.30am at The Vault Caf´e to discuss any other issues facing residents.
After a slow turnout at the first coffee morning, there was a good response on Tuesday when at least a dozen locals came along to express their opinions.
One issue raised was the desire to see a cinema in town and more musical events as well as a strong request for a bus service to Palmerston North.
Another concern raised was the lack of availability of district councillors.
Other worries related to responsibilities of ratepayers to pay for trimming trees on their street frontages and maintaining water connections when heavy traffic is hammering the roads along Swinburn and Waterloo Streets.
The state of footpaths in relation to the increasing use of mobility scooters was also raised, as was the issue of foliage blocking the view of rail traffic in Dannevirke.
The board is referring a number of these directly to the Tararua District Council and Horizon’s Regional Council and in a number of cases has already initiated actions to try to remedy the problems.
