Online extremism
The Government is moving to protect Kiwis from violent online extremism after last year’s Christchurch terror attack. It’s lodged a new Bill, amending the 1993 Films, Videos, and Publications Classification Act. Internal Affairs Minister Tracey Martin says the bill would criminalise live streaming of objectionable content. It also brings social media companies within the scope of current laws on objectionable content and allows the Government to issue take down notices for online. She said the Bill is part of a wider Government programme to address violent extremism.
