Thanks to physios
This letter is to acknowledge those who are part of the team at Hastings Memorial Hospital Rehab Department, in the Hawke’s Bay DHB. I have recently suffered a severe stroke just before Covid March 2020 and was in Hastings Memorial Hospital and discharged two weeks ago.
During those months I met the physios. Naively I thought physios were professionals who retreaded maimed limbs but I quickly realised they retreaded brains as well and elicited life out of disabled and paralysed bodies.
How extraordinary you are, always kind, good-natured, determined and encouraging. My mind was opened up as you worked wonders on me and gave me confidence and movement again. My pride in being able to eventually stand tall and look over all I could survey even though tall took a long time to become fashionable as glances would cast our way.
I cannot thank you all enough for being our inspiration. And for giving us the ability to regain some independence on our next journey. We learned much and regained some of what we had lost and became aware of the scope of your profession.
I observed that all patients were given professional attention by physios and occupational therapists who had to ensure we could get on to our feet or in to bed.
I learned about stroke conditions and how much they vary. Those you will continue to meet will feel the same and thank their lucky stars that they received your attention. With appreciation always.
