Strike postponed

Laboratory staff have postponed a planned strike due to the resurgence of Covid-19. Sixhundred workers at Southern Community Laboratories were aiming to walk off the job for 24 hours on Monday, calling for fair pay. But spokesman David Munro says it’s clear their skills are going to be desperately needed with the intensive ramping-up of Covid testing. He says staff have decided not to risk any disruption to testing, and put the country’s safety ahead of their pay dispute. They’re now looking at striking on September 4.
