Call to ARMS

Linda Hall puts her body on the line at the Skin Clinic in the name of research

BECAUSE I HAVE had such fantastic results on my face from the Ultraformer lll, I decided to let Tracey Price, owner of HB Laser Skin Clinic, loose on my upper arms.

This is a part of my body that the older I get the harder it is to keep it in shape.

Yes, there are exercises for all parts of you body but this area is rather stubborn.

Tracey says the Ultraformer can be used on a number of parts of your body to tighten skin and reduce fat.

“It uses high-intensity ultrasound to heat targeted areas, creating a coagulating effect on the deeper layers of the skin. We use multi-depth cartridges to directly transfer ultrasound energy into the deeper layers of the treated area to trigger collagen renewal and fat breakdown,” Tracey said.

I lay on the treatment table face down with my elbows facing up. I was a tad worried because that part of the body is rather tender and it did hurt more than the face treatments but is certainly not unbearable. Tracey constantly asked if I was okay. And the good thing about it is it doesn’t take very long.

I did have some light bruising a day or two later but it quickly faded.

“The best part about this treatment is that you’re able to resume your normal activities immediately after treatment. Some slight redness, swelling or light bruising may occur, but it should subside quickly. A light tingling sensation of the treated area may persist for a few weeks.”

She says the treatment is not for everyone. “I’m always honest when people inquire about the treatment. I can’t produce miracles so it’s important to eat a healthy balanced diet, drink plenty of water and keep active.

“Four to six body contouring treatments are usually enough for most people; however, some people may need less and some more for best results. Treatments are usually carried out every month. It takes three months to see the best results which can last up to a year.

“For face treatment a follow up treatment is usually required 2-3 months after the initial treatment and then 6 monthly for eyes and mouth areas and once a year as ongoing maintenance for rest of the face and neck areas.

“As collagen production can be ongoing, most people will continue to see the effects of the treatment improve for some-time after the session.

During the treatment you will feel warm pulses of ultrasound energy being delivered deep under the skin, causing the collagen and muscle layers to contract.

The Ultraformer III can treat most parts of the body including; the face, neck, abdomen, buttocks, upper arms and knees.

How does it work?

Below the surface (epidermis), your skin is made up of three important layers: the superficial dermis, the deeper dermis and the SMAS layer, the ‘infrastructure’ layer that connects your skin to the muscular structures below. With age, the building blocks of supple, youthful skin (collagen, elastic fibres and a gel-like substance called the extra brillar matrix) lose their strength and elasticity and the SMAS layer loses its ability to support your skin. The result is loose, sagging and wrinkled skin. Ultraformer treatment tackles sagging skin at all three levels.

It works with geometric precision. MicroFocused Ultrasound sends bursts of finely tuned ultrasound energy to precise depths to stimulate regeneration. The target tissues are heated to the specific temperature required to induce thermal injury, which causes the collagen to contract, and then, over time, to produce new and stronger collagen.
