Cellar Door pouring afresh
On August 13, Hawke’s Bay Winegrowers opened a pop-up “Cellar Door” in the heart of Hastings located at the corner of Warren and Heretaunga Streets (in the popular Heretaunga St East 200 block, next door to Hastings Distillers).
Following the success of the first 13-week stint, another 13-week block has begun, with a new selection of more than 30 Hawke’s Bay wineries presenting their wines as part of a regional tasting, along with a rotating “Feature Table” offering themed tastings.
A number of the wineries participating do not have their own cellar doors to visit, so this is a great opportunity for the public to discover new producers, and varieties they may not have come across before.
Wines are available for purchase by the bottle to take away, and each week there is a small selection available to taste.
The concept has been supported by Hastings District Council with a grant from the Covid-19 relief fund, complementing Hawke’s Bay Tourism’s ‘#HawkesBaycation’ promotion, New Zealand Winegrowers’ #VisittheVines campaign and Hastings District Council’s CBD revitalisation programme with the growing vibe in Hastings’ Eat Street.
Hawke's Bay Winegrowers Association is the official regional wine industry organisation, representing all wineries and growers. Formed in 2006, early growers’ and winemakers’ organisations amalgamated to form one industry body.
Its aim is to build the Hawke's Bay fine wine category, achieving international recognition as a sustainable and profitable world-class wine-producing region.
The Hawke’s Bay Wine Cellar Door will operate until February 7, 2021.
It is open 20 hours a week – Thursdays 1pm to
5pm, Fridays 1pm to 6pm, Saturdays 11am to 6pm and Sundays 12 noon to 4pm.
