The story on our Facebook page headed “‘Absolute nightmare’: Hastings early childcare centre closes without warning” drew these comments:

● Tiane Lata Very disappointed when I received the email last night, and I just recently enrolled my youngest there and he just got used to the teachers and the environment and I have to find somewhere for him to start all over.

● Renee Lee Sounds like madness come on guys more people need to start becoming educare teachers so many little kiddos are missing out here

● Davyd Auckram If it was staff they could have kept some kids as they did have some staff

● Sarah Taylor If ECE teachers had better pay and work conditions then there wouldn’t be this shortage of staff. I really feel for the teachers and parents having no notice about no longer having a job

or childcare.

● Adrian Fisher The trouble is they could hire some people without qualifications. Have they thought of advertising for more staff?

● Valerie Norris I can almost guarantee that it was a hard choice hence the lack of notice. Lack of staff means they are legally not allowed to operate. Unless you’re a fly on the wall stop making assumptions

● Louise Herbert Little magpies Napier has a new Ed in Hastings , a qualified teacher, who has spaces available, phone Monday and the office will be able to help. Poor families , a stressful time juggling childcare and work

● Amanda McDonough So bad, this has affected working grandparents who look after their mokos too. Not good enough. Shame on the staff.
