Animals’ quality dictates prices
STOCK SALE: Medium lambs down, reports Rose Harding
Last week’s red hot prices were not repeated at yesterday’s Stortford Lodge store sale as lambs came back by about $12. Agents said the absence of some big buyers and a slightly lesser quality offering meant the medium lambs which sold so well last week dropped sharply yesterday.
However, the best of the lambs either held their value or fell only slightly.
The more than 1500 in-lamb ewes also sold according to their quality.
In the cattle rostrum traditional breed steers sold very well.
Buyers for the about 320 cattle and almost 12,000 sheep came from Hawke’s Bay, Waikato, Wairarapa, and Manawatu.
The sheep offering took up so many pens that it spilled over to the smaller pens reserved for Monday prime sales.
