The story on our Facebook page headed “Mum loves picking apples” drew these comments:

● Shelley Hanna I picked apples back in the 80s it was great working outdoors. Seems hard at first but it does get easier.

● Faye Northe Good healthy work, mums used to do it back in the sixties.

● Ernie Renall Come on Hawkes Bay Winz put a van on and supply transport for unemployed in the Bay, if they refuse no dole.

● Katherine Cobley That’s what my Dad's pickers used to do way back in the 60s, perfect arrangemen­t working school hours.

● Maria Ennor Been there done that when my kids were young. Now in their 40s n 50s.

● Johannes Hoogenboom May be with fuel costs and time involved she would be better looking closer to where the children are at school.

● Derryn Finlayson Many Orchardist­s offer “Mum” hours from what I understand. They're often finding it hard to get enough staff with the overseas restrictio­ns on workers.

● Lyn Culley I loved picking back in 80s good ppl to work for and with too.
