Gangs kept in check
Police say their response to planned gang events in Auckland over the weekend went to plan. Scores of Head Hunters gang members have been taking part in 20th anniversary celebrations for the gang’s largest chapter. Officers have been staffing checkpoints around the Head Hunters’ headquarters in Mount Wellington, and in North Auckland. East Auckland Area Commander for Auckland East Inspector Jim Wilson says one person has been arrested, and seven bikes have been seized and impounded. He says police stopped every vehicle that came through Marua Rd, talked to every rider, and issued 130 infringement notices. Wilson says police are sending a strong message that they will not tolerate bad behaviour.
