Young horse champs
The nation’s future horse riding superstars are likely to be competing this weekend at the Bayleys National Young Horse Championship Show at the Tomoana Showgrounds in Hastings. Hosted by Northern Hawke‘s Bay Show Jumping, the show celebrates all that is special about New Zealand’s equine stars. This year, for the first time, there is a young horse ring to ensure the best of footing for the youngsters. Champions will be found in the 4, 5, 6 and 7-year-old divisions, while the leading breeder across the young horse classes is also rewarded. Greg Best is designing the young horse championship classes. The Grand Prix show is also running national series jumping and show hunter classes, the FEI CSI1* class and the hotly contested Kyrewood Area Teams event. Heather McDonald will design the courses in ring one with Gary Sinclair tasked with ring two. More than 300 combinations have entered, including a small contingent from the South Island, with more expected to attend the December 9 to 11 show.
