Prices at annual cattle fair on a par with last year
STOCK SALE: In general, prices might have been slightly up, writes Rose Harding.
Agood sale of quality cattle was the verdict from yesterday’s annual cow fair at Stortford Lodge. This year’s top price of $1690 compares with last year’s $1710. As a whole, prices were perhaps up slightly on last year’s fair.
The overall quality of the offering of about 910 head was high, reflecting the good feed conditions of the last two years.
Lamb prices in the small offering of about 900 head reflected the quality of the offering which was below the standard of last week.
Buyers were from Hawke's Bay, Masterton and Manawatu. There were also sales to buyers on the online Bidr site.
