Champion mare Winx made it a record 26-straight wins by demolishing the field in the race named after her, the $500,000 group one Winx Stakes (1400m), at Randwick yesterday.

Winx sat towards the back the field and got wide on the turn with Kementari, the horse many thought would challenge her, but she blew him away in the straight and ran 33.36 seconds for her final 600m.

The pair made their runs together, but the mare was far too good with the Godolphin star unplaced.

“She heard the crowd, I heard it and I’m sure she heard it because when the crowd erupted at the 250m mark she just dropped and went, ” said jockey Hugh Bowman.

The win takes her career earnings just shy of $20 million and it was her 30th win overall from 36 starts.

Winx defeated Invictus Prince by two lengths eased up after booting clear of a crack field of group one stars at 100m mark.

“It’s simply amazing. This is what racing is all about.” said an emotional ex-pat Kiwi trainer Chris Waller.

Going into yesterday’s assignment, Winx had been locked together with fellow champion mare Black Caviar on 25 consecutive wins. The victory extends Winx’s world record to 19 group ones.

Her next race is likely to be the $500,000 George Main Stakes as she attempts to win a record fourth consecutive Cox Plate.
