WHERE I’D RATHER BE . . .
SHORT HAUL
In Sydney’s Bondi Beach for the 22nd annual Sculpture by the Sea, one of the largest free to the public sculpture exhibitions in the world, with 100 works spanning a 2km coastal walk. Oct 18-November 4. sculpturebythesea.com
Eating: Brunch at Shuk, a cafe inspired by the owner and chef’s upbringing in Israel and the marketplaces central to that culture. shukbondi.com
Drinking: A post-walk margarita (don’t judge, I’ve earned it), at The Anchor, a nautical-themed bar in South Bondi. anchorbarbondi.com
Staying: At Adina Apartment Bondi Beach, self-contained accommodation that makes it easy to feel like a local. adinahotels.com
MID HAUL
Enjoying another beautiful coastal walk, the Hana-Waianapanapa Coastal Trail, on the Hawaiian island of Maui. The 8km trail takes hikers on The King’s Walkway. gohawaii.com/islands/maui
Eating: At Mama’s Fish House, a seafood restaurant where the menu lists the name of the fisherman who caught our fish. mamasfishhouse.com
Drinking: Locally-brewed craft beers at Maui Brewing Company, whose options include a Big Swell IPA, a Bikini Blonde Lager and a Coconut Hiwa Porter. mauibrewingco.com
Staying: At the Hotel Wailea, a Relais & Chateaux luxury property, with ocean views and Tesla Model Xs available for complimentary use. hotelwailea.com
LONG HAUL
Taking on the challenging Pembrokeshire Coast Path, a 300km walk in Britain’s only coastal national park, with 10km of ascents and descents — apparently equivalent to climbing Everest. nationaltrail.co.uk/ pembrokeshire-coast-path
Eating: A hearty meal at The Ferry Inn, a pub with an award-winning beer garden in the walk’s starting town, St Dogmaels. ferryinn.wales
Drinking: A celebratory pint at the Amroth Arms, a pub at the end of the trail (presuming I make it that far, of course). amrotharms.com
Staying: In Roch Castle Hotel, a former 12th-century Norman castle, now one of the best luxury hotels in Wales. After walking 300km, I deserve it. rochcastle.com
