Mil­lane ar­rives in Auck­land and checks into the Base Back­pack­ers Hos­tel.

Satur­day, De­cem­ber 1

She makes con­tact with her fam­ily — the last time they will hear from her af­ter daily mes­sages back and forth.

She is cap­tured on CCTV leav­ing Andy’s Burg­ers & Bar, on the first level of SkyCity, at 7.15pm.

At 9.41pm, Mil­lane is cap­tured again on CCTV, en­ter­ing the CityLife Ho­tel on Queen St with a man.

Sun­day, De­cem­ber 2

Fam­ily be­come con­cerned af­ter Mil­lane doesn’t re­spond to mes­sages wish­ing her a happy 22nd birth­day.

A miss­ing per­sons re­port is filed with po­lice.

Thurs­day, De­cem­ber 6

Po­lice ap­peal to the pub­lic for any sight­ings of Mil­lane.

Fri­day, De­cem­ber 7

Her fa­ther David Mil­lane ar­rives in New Zealand and speaks to me­dia about his “lovely, out­go­ing, fun-lov­ing, fam­ily-ori­en­tated daugh­ter”.

He calls for any­one with in­for­ma­tion to come for­ward.

De­tec­tive In­spec­tor Scott Beard says po­lice have “grave fears” for her safety. He won’t be drawn on whether Mil­lane knew the man she was seen with be­fore their meeting, but po­lice had spo­ken to him and “we still have no ev­i­dence of foul play”. Po­lice search for clues at an apart­ment at the ho­tel.

Satur­day, De­cem­ber 8

Af­ter search­ing Mil­lane’s be­long­ings at the back­pack­ers, they ap­peal for items miss­ing — her pass­port, a pink Ca­sio Baby-G watch and sil­ver green­stone neck­lace.

Just af­ter 3pm, po­lice take in to cus­tody the man, 26, Mil­lane was with at the ho­tel and find a “ve­hi­cle of in­ter­est”.

At 5pm, Beard an­nounces the in­ves­ti­ga­tion is now a homi­cide in­quiry.

At 9pm, po­lice say the man will be charged with mur­der.
