Democracy the headache

Herald on Sunday - - EDITORIAL -

Regarding Liam Dann’s column (“Huawei just the start of NZ’s China headache”, HoS, Dec 2), the headache is democracy. China is doing well; lifting its people out of poverty while making huge strides to reduce pollution and increase renewable power capacity. At a time Britain is paralysed by Brexit and Trump’s goal is rude isolation, his corrupt administration denying the greatest threat civilisation has ever faced: climate change.

In NZ, the Opposition’s only concern is getting back into power. What for? Issue new permits for petroleum exploration? If we burn all the fossil fuel we know about already the sea level will rise 60 metres. Not tomorrow, so who cares.
