Clash of the Collectables

Prime, 7:30pm Tuesday There’s no summer activity quite like staying in and watching antiques shows on TV. Clash of the Collectables is a lighthearted take on the Antiques Roadtrip format, with Australian expert Alan Carter hosting his English friend and rival Eric Knowles in a sort of antiquing version of cricket’s The Ashes. Each week they go scratting around some local dealerships with a wad of cash to see who can make the best finds and earn the most profit at auction. In the first episode, Knowles buys a massive crystal thing off a bloke in a parking lot, like a scene straight out of Lovejoy.

Jono and Ben’s Big Stupid Quiz

Three, 10:00pm Thursday

Joni Mitchell was talking about a parking lot or something when she said “you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone", but she could just as easily have been talking about Kiwi comedy duo Jono and Ben. They’ve only been off the telly for five minutes but already we kind of miss them. Just as well they’re back already, then, with some cheap and cheerful end-of-year TV schedule filler in the form of this Big Stupid Quiz. The bar for this sort of thing is set very low — remember TVNZ’s Quizmas last year?
