New Zealand qualify for Tokyo Olympics

-

The OlyWhites beat the Solomon Islands 5-0 in the final of the Oceania qualifying tournament at Churchill Park in Lautoka yesterday to secure their place at the Tokyo Olympics. The under-23 side led from the seven-minute mark when Logan Rogerson finished a cross at the far post. New Zealand led 3-0 at halftime and after the break looked to maintain possession to deny the Solomon Islands any chances. Myer Bevan scored a second — his 12th goal of the tournament — with just over 20 minutes to play. New Zealand will have teams in the men’s and women’s football tournaments in Tokyo next July.
