On the full moon of the 12th lunar month, this year beginning November 11, Thailand celebrates Loi Krathong Lantern Festival. Chiang Mai is one of the best places to be for this bright spot on the calendar, where you can watch the release of thousands of decorative flower boats on to the water and lanterns into the night sky — quite the brilliant spectacle. In Chiang Mai, the festival lasts three days and although the activities take place all around the city, the buzz is concentrated from Pratu Tha Pae to Narawat Bridge and the Mae Ping River.
