PODCAST OF THE WEEK
You’re Wrong About
There are so many things we’re all completely wrong about. Take Thingee’s eye, for example. It didn’t actually fall out live on the Son of a Gunn Show as we all seem to remember — it was a blooper, we only saw it on the opening titles of Eating Media Lunch.
How many other things are we collective misremembering? Heaps, if the ever-growing archives of the podcast You’re Wrong About are anything to go by. It was started in 2018 by journalists Michael Hobbes and Sarah Marshall, and over the past two years they’ve set the record straight on a wide range of (America-centric) topics, from Monica Lewinsky and the Y2K bug to Koko the gorilla (when was the last time you even thought about Koko the gorilla) and Janet Jackson’s “wardrobe malfunction” at the Super Bowl.
Most of the time, it turns out things were actually much worse and more depressing than we remember them. That’s never truer than their multi-episode deep dive into the backstory of the DC snipers’ murder spree in the early-2000s, which is so bleak it should probably be snapped up by Hollywood and made into an Oscarwinning feature film ASAP.
