Laura Heynike: Crafty tips to stay clutter-free at home

Storage is your best friend when trying to organise your clutter at home.

With winter forcing us to keep busy indoors, there is little room in homes for hobby enthusiasts to get crafty to their hearts desire without the lounge looking like a messy explosion of sorts.

With a bit of careful planning we can create tidy homes for all your knickknacks from wool yarns to colouring pens for the kids. Storage is your best friend when it comes to crafty ways to organise your clutter.

The biggest thing to note about sorting crafts is that you want to easily be able to see what you are looking for.

A perfect example of this would be why a child needs to tip the whole toy box out to find the toy at the bottom! By going down the custom route you can evaluate what type of crafts you have to store and plan your storage accordingly.

Having a variety of drawer depths, multiple pocket compartments, and a mix of flat shelves for paper stock or taller cubby to neatly stack wrapping paper would be a great start for a crafty dream storage scenario.

Even a pull down bench might be handy if bench space is at a premium.

Sometimes designing your cabinet is as intense as your kitchen all depends how much of a crafty queen you are.

If you go down the off-theshelf storage selection, fill the inner cabinets with stationary organisers, or source cutlery drawer inserts to best utilise the drawer inners.

Alternatively, finding an old Chinese medicine cabinet comes pre-made with the perfect-sized micro-drawers and is a great statement piece for your home.

You could up-cycle an old piece of furniture and paint the fronts using your favourite paint supplier and colour code them for quick access, as well as making a bold interior feature.

Lastly you might want to dedicate a couple of separate storage pieces for your crafts, one for kids, one for you. So you know when its time to get your craft on, your supplies will be kept nice and tidy!
