Country Character Charm

-

To live in the country but not be far from a town or city was a lifestyle dream that came true for Steve and Karen. Drawn to the views, the bird life and the peace and tranquillity, they moved to their Spur Road property more than six years ago. Their beautiful fourbedroom homestead gave them everything they needed – sun, space, a big farm-style kitchen, a work-from-home office – it was all laid on.

Infused with character that is hard to replica in today’s market, the villa contains lustrous native timber panelling, vintage detailing, and high stud feature ceilings. ‘‘As you enter the property, you immediately notice the lovely, curved verandas and beautiful leadlight front doors with side panels.’’

The home’s generous 296sqm footprint is very accommodating. ‘‘Our beautiful new kitchen has a nice big double oven and the large deck off it is a great place for morning coffee or a soak in the spa gazing at the night sky. The deck’s got a lovely northern aspect and a relaxing rural panorama.’’

On a clear day, the large picture window in the spacious open plan kitchen/dining family room frames views of Mt Ruapehu and the snow-capped Ruahine Ranges.

The living room is a warm, enticing retreat flooded with north sun. ‘‘We love the lounge in wintertime, sitting by the fire.’’

The upstairs bedroom has views stretching all the way to Kapiti and there is nothing more delightful than sitting on the deck watching the spring lambs play together in the paddocks and listening to the tui in the kowhai trees.

Recently refurbished, the tiled bathroom blends with the style of the home. An external entrance makes the office suited to homebased work and airconditioning keeps the home ambient through all seasons.

The front yard has been a great cricket venue and Steve,

Karen and the kids have kicked a few balls around in the yard. Then there’s been the slower paced enjoyment of sitting under the shade of a tree reading a book. Serenity is allencompassing and friendly, helpful neighbours are close by.

The couple believe their property will appeal to character home lovers who enjoy expansive country views, a big home, and a quiet rural lifestyle just 10

minutes from town. Friendly Feilding is close, and Palmerston North is a 20-minute drive. There is no sacrificing coffee culture thanks to the proximity of Ginger Bird Cafe´, which is just around the corner. The area is in zone for popular Colyton Primary.

Steve and Karen love the location and are not going far as they’ve built a new house next door.
