Kids invited to tough challenge
Readers may not have heard of Blue Light, a registered charity and community policing youth programme that runs events and programmes for youth, free from drugs, alcohol and violence.
The effects are to build selfesteem in young people, reduce crime and build youth and police partnerships.
Several events have already been held this year, however from now until the end of the year, Horowhenua Blue Light is involved in a number of exciting events.
This Saturday, the Blue Light Team will be running a Tough Kid Challenge, a challenging obstacle course.
Open to all school age children, the Tough Kid Challenge will be run in three groups: primary school, intermediate and secondary school students. The aim is to physically challenge students, who are guaranteed to get tired, wet and muddy but at the same time have a lot of fun.
Police challenge, in particular, all the recent graduates of the Waiopehu Cactus 2016 Programme to get involved and help out with this event.
Entry is free. All intending competitors must register and complete a consent form. Registrations will also be taken on the day up until 15 minutes before the start of the event at 10am for primary school students. Intermediate students start 10.30am and secondary school students at 11am.
Everyone taking part in the challenge needs to wear suitable footwear (lace up shoes and football/rugby boots are acceptable) and bring a change of clothes.
Police are encouraging parents and members of the public to come and support their children, grandchildren and friends.
Adults are also welcome and encouraged to take part, and there will be spot prizes for the best dressed participants. Constable Fiona Read can be contacted at the Levin Police Station should anyone have any queries or questions.
