May the best team win. That is the attitude taken by Levin’s two colleges during their annual winter sport clashes.

Horowhenua College and Waiopehu College finished this year’s clash with Waiopehu taking U15 Rugby title.

The colleges have been facing off against each other since 1973 in football, basketball, netball, hockey and rugby.

This year Horowhenua College won the Junior Football, Girls 1st XI Football, Boys 1st XI Football, Girls Basketball and Netball. Waiopehu College won the Boys Basketball, Boys 1st XI Hockey, Girls 1st XI Hockey, and U15 Rugby.

Horowhenua College principal Grant Congdon said the colleges have the best of friendly rivalries.

“We have two very good colleges in Levin who are working closely with each other to provide excellent educational opportunities for our students. The two colleges support each other and help each other, but when it comes to the annuals the attitude from both of our colleges is ‘may the best team win’, he said.

He said the students play hard and fairly.

“It was fantastic to see after each match players from both colleges congratulate each other and celebrate the winning team.”

Mr Congdon thanked parents, caregivers and whanau who came along to watch the games for their support.
