Psychic medium drawn towards the paranormal
Being a psychic medium isn’t a normal line of work, but Laura Summersgill says she has always been drawn towards the paranormal.
The Levin woman has established a following for her readings and consultations, offering her services to those who want to explore the idea of communicating with the ‘other side’.
Set to host her first show, she will offer live spiritual guidance and channelling for the audience. Ms Summersgill, stage name Psychic Rose, said an early interest in paganism led her towards exploring mediumship.
About nine years ago she began to notice instances of psychic perception when she was around her friends and family.
“I started realising something about me was different — I wasn’t the average person,” she said. “There were little weird incidents.”
She says she can hear chatter and communication from the spirit world.
Developing her skills as a medium involved practice and readings — she uses Angel cards to communicate and receive advice from spirit ‘guides’ — and has been involved in cleansing rituals to rid properties of unwanted spirits.
On a recent vigil she was hunting for ghosts in an old Dannevirke restaurant owned by a friend.
“We heard giggling down a hallway and a door closed roughly,” she said.
“We went into the cellar and it was very intense, a very heavy feeling.”
Ms Summersgill said she used white sage to cleanse the spaces and asked the spirits to leave.
“You have to do it politely, let them know it’s okay to go.”
At her upcoming show she will be hoping to attract the spirits to channel messages for their loved ones in the audience.
“As a medium, you’ve got to go more in depth with details,” she said. “You can’t be too generic.” She tested her abilities when meeting Horowhenua Chronicle reporter Sadie Beckman, who, though skeptical, was surprised by Ms Summersgill’s ability to describe part of her mother’s home, including a wall of photographs with a late family labrador pictured.
Ms Summersgill said the part of her work she enjoys the most is having the chance to help people heal through providing closure over the loss of a loved one.
She hoped this Saturday’s show would provide the opportunity for people to make connections and find comfort.
