Art month at library

- By ROSA GREY Shannon Library

April is Art Month at Shannon Library and we’re celebrating with a photography exhibition and opportunities to try a range of different art activities.

On Monday 3 and Wednesday 12 of April we’re holding sketching classes from 11am to 12pm. All art supplies are provided and you don’t need to book, so just come alone and meet with others who have caught the creative bug.

We’re also igniting a passion for art in the younger generation of Shannon residents. After school during April we will be giving our young library users the chance to explore art in many forms, particularly in sketching, painting, digital art and recycled art including mosaics. These art sessions are being held on weekdays after school from 3.30pm throughout the month. Art is just as important now as it has ever been, and new and interesting fields of work are opening up for young artists, such as video game design, website design as well as already established areas such as advertising, art restoration and just being an artist, the possibilities are endless.

Here in Shannon Library we also love supporting our local artists. We display the works of artists from all around the Horowhenua to the delight of the public. From April 1 we will be displaying the photography of Janette Web. Janette captures the Horowhenua landscape and scenery in vivid colour on canvas and prints to showcase the beauty of our region. To complement these activities, don’t forget to check out our range of art and craft non-fiction books. We share our collection with Te Takere and the Foxton Library, to bring readers a wide variety of knowledge, ideas, and guides on art and creativity. You can find anything that takes your fancy from abstract art, art throughout the ages, painting with watercolour, creating digital masterpieces on a computer, sculpting, photography and even famous artists. What better way to find your creative niche than by browsing our collection until inspiration strikes!

Here are some recent additions to the art and craft section:
