Samoan team performs

-

Horowhenua Ka¯piti’s Samoan side is a young side which hasn’t played together much, said coach Robbie Paia’aua.

“We have a lot of young guys who play for pride in the union and in their own culture.”

In the first game of the new season the team lost to Manawatu¯ Samoans at Levin Domain 44-29. This coming weekend the team plays Wanganuiunion’s team Marton.

“Always a very physical game,” said Robbie. “Manawatu¯ were tough to play. They have a great forward pack.”

This week the numbers were down at training.

“We are still building our team and this weekend we will have some of the U20s guys back in our pack.”

The boys also play for the High Commissioner’s Cup, which is played between Samoan reps in four unions: Horowhenua Ka¯piti, Manawatu¯, Marton and Hawke’s Bay.

“We won that competition in 2013 and 2014 and we are hoping to bring home the trophy again this year,” Robbie said.
