French com­posers in Ka¯piti Cho­rale con­cert

Ka¯ piti Cho­rale has had a suc­cess­ful con­cert fea­tur­ing French com­posers Saint Sae¨ n’s Ave Maria, Faure´ ’s pop­u­lar

Can­tique de Jean Racine, Gounod’s Messe Bre`ve and Re­quiem in C along with items from soloists Jamie Young, Olivia Sheat, Alexan­dra Wood­house Ap­pleby and Lexus Song Quest third-placed fi­nal­ist, Joseph Had­dow.

“The cho­rale is very proud of the lat­ter three who are all cho­rale vo­cal award win­ners from the New Zealand School of Mu­sic based at Vic­to­ria Univer­sity,” Ka¯ piti Cho­rale pres­i­dent Carol Dyer said.

“A spe­cial ad­di­tion to the con­cert was a beau­ti­ful vi­o­lin solo by Dr Martin Rise­ley of NZSM, play­ing a valu­able 18th cen­tury de Gabrielle vi­o­lin, owned by choir mem­ber Bill McKe­ich.”

The cho­rale was es­tab­lished by Lois Mc­Neil in 1983 and has had sev­eral cel­e­brated mu­sic di­rec­tors in­clud­ing Peter God­frey, Stu­art Dou­glas, Marie Brown and cur­rent di­rec­tor Eric Si­doti all of whom have de­vel­oped a com­mu­nity choir which has main­tained a high stan­dard over many years, she said.

“With cur­rently about 60 choir members, the choir is keen to re­cruit new members.”
