Ka¯ piti Chorale has had a successful concert featuring French composers Saint Sae¨ n’s Ave Maria, Faure´ ’s popular
Cantique de Jean Racine, Gounod’s Messe Bre`ve and Requiem in C along with items from soloists Jamie Young, Olivia Sheat, Alexandra Woodhouse Appleby and Lexus Song Quest third-placed finalist, Joseph Haddow.
“The chorale is very proud of the latter three who are all chorale vocal award winners from the New Zealand School of Music based at Victoria University,” Ka¯ piti Chorale president Carol Dyer said.
“A special addition to the concert was a beautiful violin solo by Dr Martin Riseley of NZSM, playing a valuable 18th century de Gabrielle violin, owned by choir member Bill McKeich.”
The chorale was established by Lois McNeil in 1983 and has had several celebrated music directors including Peter Godfrey, Stuart Douglas, Marie Brown and current director Eric Sidoti all of whom have developed a community choir which has maintained a high standard over many years, she said.
“With currently about 60 choir members, the choir is keen to recruit new members.”
