Var­ied top­ics for speech con­test

Di­nosaurs, lambs, Michael Jor­dan, on­line video games, gym­nas­tics and adop­tion were top­ics talked about at St Mary’s School in Fox­ton dur­ing a speech com­pe­ti­tion held on Fri­day, Septem­ber 7.

The par­tic­i­pants were Max Zand­ber­gen-Dul­ver, who spoke about di­nosaurs, while Kayla Teal talked about lambs.

Lhu­cius Del­low fo­cused on Michael Jor­dan, while Ryan Cham­bers took on the hot topic of on­line video games and whether they are good for you.

Ella Par­lato had cho­sen to speak about gym­nas­tics and Apera Ta­matea had picked the sub­ject of adop­tion.

Each speaker was re­quired to deal with the theme: a mes­sage to think about.

The judges were Bruce Fal­loon and Maria Lawrence, who were look­ing for the mes­sage in the speech, the vol­ume of voice vari­a­tion and pro­jec­tion with paus­ing and eye con­tact.

“Over­all an in­ter­est­ing con­test,” said Fal­loon.

The re­sults:

Third place went to Ella Par­lato, while sec­ond place was a dead­heat for both Max Zand­ber­gen-Dul­ver and Ryan Cham­bers.

The win­ing speech was from Apera Ta­matea.
