Levin bowls’ triple event in cold conditions
The Levin Bowling Club in Weraroa Road held their men’s and women’s triples event last weekend in cold and blustery conditions. All players played great bowls in the conditions. The women’s event was won by B McMahon, D McGill and L Galloway and the men’s event by N Morgan, P Brown and D Johnson. Well done to Nicky who is a new member to the club and his first club title. We wish these players the best of luck in the Champion of Champions event in the New Year.
■ The Central Bowls balloted triples of both the men and women have been completed over the weekend, with some great bowls being played. There were seven teams entered in the men’s and four in the women’s event. The teams were drawn and of the seven men only three qualified for playoffs. However out of the four women’s teams three qualified.
In the men’s event, the team of Ross Mclean(s), Ross Staples and David Gray came through with two wins after defeating Robbie Stewart’s team in the semi-finals by 17-11 and the team of Peter Shepherd (s), Neil Bovey and Laurie Field by 20-10 in the final.
The women’s team had a similar result, with Dot Collis(s), Aileen Kopke and Paula Vercoe defeating Teresa Barone’s team 15-11 in the semi-finals and Babs Hirini(s), Noelene Knight and Kathy Field in the final, by 17-11.
Some good bowls were played on fast running greens.
