Teams play in hol­i­day tour­na­ment

Horowhenua Hockey As­so­ci­a­tion hosted a U15 Boys/ Mixed Fes­ti­val Tour­na­ment at the Hal­li­well Turf, Don­nelly Park Levin for three days this week.

There were five teams present from Poverty Bay, Hawke’s Bay, Manawatu¯ , Horowhenua and a Welling­ton/Ka¯ piti com­bined team.

Horowhenua Hockey has not had a U15 Boys team for over three years but were able to bring a team to­gether for a fes­ti­val tour­na­ment.

Many of the Horowhenua play­ers have not rep­re­sented Horowhenua since their pri­mary school years at­tend­ing the Na­tional Hatch tour­na­ments. Although it was pre­dom­i­nantly a boys’ tour­na­ment some teams had girls to make up the num­bers. Sec­ondary stu­dents were will­ing to give up their school hol­i­days to play sport.

There was no fi­nal played but with three points awarded for a win and one for a draw, the over­all win­ner on points was Poverty Bay 10, Hawke’s Bay 8, Horowhenua 7, Wgtn/Ka¯ piti 3 and Manawatu¯ Fu­tures 0.

Start­ing on Sun­day Horowhenua Hockey As­so­ci­a­tion is host­ing the Cen­tral Rawleigh U13 girls tour­na­ment with 10 teams at­tend­ing. This tour­na­ment runs through to Thurs­day Oc­to­ber 11, so please if you see the teams out and about make them feel wel­come.
