Teams play in holiday tournament
Horowhenua Hockey Association hosted a U15 Boys/ Mixed Festival Tournament at the Halliwell Turf, Donnelly Park Levin for three days this week.
There were five teams present from Poverty Bay, Hawke’s Bay, Manawatu¯ , Horowhenua and a Wellington/Ka¯ piti combined team.
Horowhenua Hockey has not had a U15 Boys team for over three years but were able to bring a team together for a festival tournament.
Many of the Horowhenua players have not represented Horowhenua since their primary school years attending the National Hatch tournaments. Although it was predominantly a boys’ tournament some teams had girls to make up the numbers. Secondary students were willing to give up their school holidays to play sport.
There was no final played but with three points awarded for a win and one for a draw, the overall winner on points was Poverty Bay 10, Hawke’s Bay 8, Horowhenua 7, Wgtn/Ka¯ piti 3 and Manawatu¯ Futures 0.
Starting on Sunday Horowhenua Hockey Association is hosting the Central Rawleigh U13 girls tournament with 10 teams attending. This tournament runs through to Thursday October 11, so please if you see the teams out and about make them feel welcome.
