Julie Lamb brings blues to folk club
The Julie Lamb Outfit, a five-person group with guitar, keyboards, bass and drums will be playing at the Levin Folk Music Club on Friday.
Top vocalists Julie Lamb and Shan Jordan, from Wellington, will entertain with some blues-infused covers and original stories.
Julie Lamb has recorded four albums. Her achievements include: charting on the official NZ Album Charts with the two latest albums, award wins from the Pacific Songwriting Competition and Beat100 A&R, being recognised all over the world by groups such as Jack and Jill No. 20 and Acid Tapes in Australia, 1st Renaissance in the UK and Indie Music Bus Favourites in the USA, being chosen to play New Year’s Eve at Wellington waterfront to a crowd of 10,000.
They say their latest album Ordinary Days is the band’s greatest offering yet with amazing reviews. It contains smooth and exciting funk, which along with a guest a cappella number, offers the listener an appealing ride with quirky surprises.
“It’s great to hear some funky poprock with good old-fashioned backing vocals and horn parts too. A class act made all the better by the joie-de-vivre it encapsulates and projects,” wrote Bing Turkby in NZ Music Magazine.
Julie is the founder of a cappella women’s choir 10dd, as well as volunteering for the Capital Blues Club, Aro Creative and The Wellington Jazz Orchestra.
Julie also nurtures up and coming musicians and she is a staunch supporter of the Wellington live music scene.
A new venture, The Fold, which she recently opened is an intimate space presenting musicians and performers to a welcoming audience.
The band is made up of Julie Lamb, vocals, bad jokes and equally dubious percussion; Shan Jordan, keys, vocals; Eoin Williams, guitar and silver foxness; Chris Fursdon, bass and scholarly tones and Jordan Ross, drums.
Doors are open at 7pm at the Horowhenua Scottish Society Hall, Bartholomew and Middlesex Rd, Levin. Enjoy the blackboard during the first half of the evening and supper, before settling in for a great second half. Indulge in raffle tickets to win JLO’s CD or free tickets for the November concert.
Admission is $10 public, $5 for members.
