Per­son killed by car

A per­son has died af­ter be­ing hit by a ve­hi­cle south of O¯ taki on Fri­day morn­ing. Po­lice were called to the in­ci­dent at 5.02am and in­quiries are on­go­ing. The Se­ri­ous Crash Unit is in­ves­ti­gat­ing and the road was closed for sev­eral hours with di­ver­sions in place.

Dead woman named

Po­lice have named the woman killed in a crash on State High­way 1 near Fox­ton on Oc­to­ber 5 as Michelle Grace Tun­ley, 31, of Lower Hutt. “Our thoughts are with her fam­ily at this dif­fi­cult time,” a spokesper­son said.

The Se­ri­ous Crash Unit are in­ves­ti­gat­ing and the death has been re­ferred to the coro­ner.

82-year-old vic­tim named

A man who died in a crash on Sad­dle Rd, Manawatu¯ , on Oc­to­ber 5 has been named as 82-year-old Bar­rett Arthur Pene of Palmerston North. The in­ci­dent has been re­ferred to the coro­ner. Po­lice said Mr Pene’s fam­ily had re­quested pri­vacy and their thoughts were with them.

Great Big Shandig on

Shan­non will hold its an­nual Great Big Shandig on Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 27 from 7.30pm at the Shan­non Me­mo­rial Hall on Grey St. Ir­ish band Shenani­gans will play and there will be plenty of fun and danc­ing on the night. It is an al­co­hol-free event and or­gan­is­ers ask for a gold coin do­na­tion for the sup­per that will be sup­plied at the end of the night.
