Join the Levin Christ­mas Pa­rade

This year the Horowhenua Christ­mas Car­ni­val takes place from 4pm on Satur­day De­cem­ber 1. The Car­ni­val opens with Santa’s Pa­rade down Ox­ford Street, Levin.

The pa­rade will start from York Street, turn right into Ox­ford Street, travel south down Ox­ford Street, and then turn right into Durham Street.

The Po­lice and the Pipe and Drums Band will lead the way. There will be se­cret judges in the crowd tak­ing notes and judg­ing the floats for their chance to win fan­tas­tic prizes for first, sec­ond and third places.. Win­ners will be an­nounced at the start of the Christ­mas car­ols at 7pm.

There are cur­rently 27 float en­tries, some with mul­ti­ple ve­hi­cles, some walk­ing and some with push-bikes.

Af­ter the pa­rade the fes­tiv­i­ties will move to the Levin Do­main where the Christ­mas Car­ni­val kicks into full swing with stilt walk­ers, Mir­ror­man, jug­glers, an­i­mal bal­loons, Cir­cus Play Zone and plenty of other fun.

Stilt walk­ers are highly vis­ual and will rove through­out the Car­ni­val in­ter­act­ing and cre­at­ing ex­cit­ing at­mos­phere. The Mir­ror­man is a cheeky and fun rov­ing hu­man disco ball who will be get­ting pho­tos, in­ter­act­ing and danc­ing.

Two dy­namic jug­glers will en­ter­tain at ground level with a range of per­for­mance arts such as jug­gling, poi, rib­bons and flags. There will also be an an­i­mal bal­loon artist mak­ing colour­ful cre­ations.

The Cir­cus Play Zone will have in­struc­tors colour­fully dressed up teach­ing a range of spe­cialised per­for­mance props in­clud­ing poi, staff, di­ablo, spin­ning plates, jug­gling, hoop and more.

The area is set up with loads of equip­ment, a ground rope bound­ary and chil­dren can come and go as they like. In ad­di­tion, there will be other rides and ac­tiv­i­ties, in­clud­ing a gi­ant 7m high slide, bungy run, and merry-go-round. Plenty of food trucks will also be avail­able.

There will be Christ­mas car­ols from 7pm and an out­door fam­ily movie from 8.30pm. The movie will be ei­ther How the Grinch Stole Christ­mas or Elf, de­pend­ing on the re­sults of a com­mu­nity vote Coun­cil is run­ning on Face­book.
