Join the Levin Christmas Parade
This year the Horowhenua Christmas Carnival takes place from 4pm on Saturday December 1. The Carnival opens with Santa’s Parade down Oxford Street, Levin.
The parade will start from York Street, turn right into Oxford Street, travel south down Oxford Street, and then turn right into Durham Street.
The Police and the Pipe and Drums Band will lead the way. There will be secret judges in the crowd taking notes and judging the floats for their chance to win fantastic prizes for first, second and third places.. Winners will be announced at the start of the Christmas carols at 7pm.
There are currently 27 float entries, some with multiple vehicles, some walking and some with push-bikes.
After the parade the festivities will move to the Levin Domain where the Christmas Carnival kicks into full swing with stilt walkers, Mirrorman, jugglers, animal balloons, Circus Play Zone and plenty of other fun.
Stilt walkers are highly visual and will rove throughout the Carnival interacting and creating exciting atmosphere. The Mirrorman is a cheeky and fun roving human disco ball who will be getting photos, interacting and dancing.
Two dynamic jugglers will entertain at ground level with a range of performance arts such as juggling, poi, ribbons and flags. There will also be an animal balloon artist making colourful creations.
The Circus Play Zone will have instructors colourfully dressed up teaching a range of specialised performance props including poi, staff, diablo, spinning plates, juggling, hoop and more.
The area is set up with loads of equipment, a ground rope boundary and children can come and go as they like. In addition, there will be other rides and activities, including a giant 7m high slide, bungy run, and merry-go-round. Plenty of food trucks will also be available.
There will be Christmas carols from 7pm and an outdoor family movie from 8.30pm. The movie will be either How the Grinch Stole Christmas or Elf, depending on the results of a community vote Council is running on Facebook.
