Levin woman dies in head-on crash on state highway
A Levin woman killed in a headon crash on Tuesday was the rock of her family, her grieving son has said.
Wendy Kauwhata, 54, is believed to have died at the scene of the two-car crash on SH1 south of the Horowhenua town on Tuesday afternoon.
Her partner, Colin Kauwhata, is currently in an induced coma, son Tepihi Kauwhata said.
A 15-year-old boy also in the car is about to have surgery for two broken legs.
“They left my house at five and then they got involved in a head-on collision with another car,” Tepihi said.
There were two rottweilers in the car at the time of the crash as well, who were rescued by a bystander.
The dogs are being treated, one for a broken leg that may need to be amputated.
Tepihi has set up a Givealittle page (givealittle.co.nz/cause/ help-for-my-mums-baby-girls#) to help pay vet bills.
