Countdown raises cash for the kids
Countdown supermarkets in Manawatu¯ and Horowhenua have raised $37,000 for the children’s ward at Palmerston North Hospital.
Redecoration of the Children’s Ward at Palmerston North Hospital will become a reality thanks to the Countdown Kid’s Hospital Appeal.
On Wednesday November 28 Child Health Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist Robbie Lane and Children’s Ward Associate Charge Nurse Joshua Puts were presented with a cheque for $37,000 on behalf of the 10 Countdown supermarkets in the Manawatu¯ /Horowhenua region at Countdown Feilding, who collected donations for the appeal.
Robbie Lane said the money will be used to freshen up the Children’s Ward, with colourful, nature-inspired decals and new paintwork. They will also be able to purchase some breastfeeding equipment for the neonatal unit.
She said the redecoration will make the place a little less intimidating for children.
“Coming in to hospital is scary for kids, so a place that’s bright and colourful will make it more inviting for some of our smallest patients.”
The campaign raised over $1 million nationwide, all of which goes towards children’s hospitals and wards.
