Lexus brings in ‘gateway’ UX model

-

The model line-up and pricing has been confirmed for the new Lexus UX that will join the luxury small SUV segment when it launches in New Zealand in February.

Lexus New Zealand will offer seven variants of the eye-catching UX urban crossover which include a choice of 2.0-litre petrol or petrol-electric hybrid powertrains, front-drive and all-wheel-drive models and the usual Lexus selection of base, F Sport and Limited equipment grades.

The 2.0-litre petrol base grade UX 200 model is the start point for the range priced at $59,900 while an F Sport specified petrol FWD model will be $69,900.

The new 2.0-litre Dynamic Force, four-cylinder engine develops 126kW and is coupled with a new Direct Shift continuously variable transmission. The other five variants are designated UX 250h and are powered by a selfcharging hybrid electric system with either front-wheel-drive or the innovative all-wheel drive E-Four system — which provides electric motor drive to the rear axle, automatically providing extra grip in slippery conditions at lower speeds.

The Lexus fourth generation hybrid system is rated with a combined output of 131kW for the UX 250h models which will be priced from $62,900 in frontwheel-drive base grade specification.

Paul Carroll, senior general manager of Lexus New Zealand, said the UX will become the new “gateway model” into the Lexus family.

“The UX will offer Lexus possibilities to introduce new customers to the brand and increase our total sales from an area of the market we haven’t been in before,” Carroll said.

“The renowned Lexus attention to detail and quality execution makes the UX a standout vehicle.

“The advanced drive platform, aerodynamics and refined powertrain create a more responsive steering feel and elegant ride comfort to make driving the UX a truly amazing experience,” said Carroll.

There will be 12 exterior colour options available including the distinctive new Terrane Khaki, Blazing Carnelian and Celestial Blue.

The Lexus Safety System+ package will be standard on all UX variants and includes a Pre-crash safety system with day and nighttime pedestrian detection and day-time cyclist detection.

There’s also all-speed dynamic radar cruise control, lane tracing assist with lane centering function, automatic high beam (adaptive high beam system for F Sport and Limited) and road sign assist.
