The first sale of the New Year at Rongotea showed no signs of festive season hangovers as buyers came looking for mouths to keep the grass down, reported John Watson of NZ Farmers Livestock.
2 year Hereford steers 570kg fetched $1660 @ 2.91/kg and 18 month crossbred steers 300kg made $550.
2 year Hereford potter bulls 520kg592kg traded at $2.85/kg and Friesian bulls 436kg made $1290. Shorthorn bulls 507kg made $1420, Friesian cross bulls 417kg made $1050 and Jersey bulls 465kg475kg realised $2.51/kg.
2 & 3 year old Angus & Hereford service bulls ranging between 685kg810kg averaged $2-75/kg.
18mth Friesian bulls 410kg made $2.75/kg; Hereford 443kg fetched $1700 and Xbred bulls 460kg made $2.56/kg.
2 year Friesian — Hereford heifers 360kg realised $2.20/kg.
Yearling Friesian bulls 342kg made $960, AngusX Hereford bulls 390kg made $1080.
Weaner Friesian bulls 108kg-153kg made $410-$550.
Friesian — Hereford bulls 111kg-135kg made $490-$510, Jersey bulls 98kg made $250, and Crossbred bulls 98kg-141kg made $3.00-$3.80/kg.
Angus cross weaner heifers 97kg118kg made $350- $530, Charolais heifers 143kg made $3.80/kg, Crossbred heifers 100kg-138kg made $280-$410, and 110kg exotics fetched $530.
Crossbred weaner steers 129kg-151kg made $2.50-$2.70/kg
Friesian boner cows 497kg-513kg fetched $880, which was $1.76/kg.
