The first sale of the New Year at Ron­gotea showed no signs of fes­tive sea­son hang­overs as buy­ers came look­ing for mouths to keep the grass down, re­ported John Wat­son of NZ Farm­ers Live­stock.

2 year Here­ford steers 570kg fetched $1660 @ 2.91/kg and 18 month cross­bred steers 300kg made $550.

2 year Here­ford pot­ter bulls 520kg592kg traded at $2.85/kg and Friesian bulls 436kg made $1290. Shorthorn bulls 507kg made $1420, Friesian cross bulls 417kg made $1050 and Jersey bulls 465kg475kg re­alised $2.51/kg.

2 & 3 year old An­gus & Here­ford ser­vice bulls rang­ing be­tween 685kg810kg av­er­aged $2-75/kg.

18mth Friesian bulls 410kg made $2.75/kg; Here­ford 443kg fetched $1700 and Xbred bulls 460kg made $2.56/kg.

2 year Friesian — Here­ford heifers 360kg re­alised $2.20/kg.

Year­ling Friesian bulls 342kg made $960, An­gusX Here­ford bulls 390kg made $1080.

Weaner Friesian bulls 108kg-153kg made $410-$550.

Friesian — Here­ford bulls 111kg-135kg made $490-$510, Jersey bulls 98kg made $250, and Cross­bred bulls 98kg-141kg made $3.00-$3.80/kg.

An­gus cross weaner heifers 97kg118kg made $350- $530, Charo­lais heifers 143kg made $3.80/kg, Cross­bred heifers 100kg-138kg made $280-$410, and 110kg ex­otics fetched $530.

Cross­bred weaner steers 129kg-151kg made $2.50-$2.70/kg

Friesian boner cows 497kg-513kg fetched $880, which was $1.76/kg.
