Food trucks hold Pop Up Eats

-

Horowhenua food truck owners are organising a few

Pop Up Eats sessions this summer and they were at

Foxton Beach from 5pm to

8pm last Wednesday.

Organisers Ricardo Hormazabal, of CHIWI Catering, and Toni Bolland, of Firebird, said they had managed to assemble an outstanding lineup of food trucks, including Zayaz Kebab, Meat Candy, Thai Kai Kitchen, Chiwi Catering, Super Donut Hero, Firebird International Street Eats, Dutchy’s Burger Joint and The Evil Stepson, as well as a 5D Cinema experience, and had local band Mischevious Mix entertain the crowds.

“The foreshore carpark was packed with people taking advantage of a hot summer’s evening, enjoying fun in the sun, and a night off from the cooking.”

Ricardo said Pop Up Eats Horowhenua is a monthly event where Food Trucks gather together and pop up at various locations across the Horowhenua District to create a foodcourt feel that hungry locals and passers-by can enjoy.

“Our goal is to bring a variety of food truck cuisines to the Horowhenua region to create an afternoon of food, live music, entertainment and all round good vibes.”

Pop Up Eats Horowhenua brings an evening of fun into quieter urban spaces across the Horowhenua. As part of the experience, people can expect to see both locally well-known food trucks, as well as “special guest” food truckers attend from outside the region.

“We are so proud to be able to bring this event to our community. Our intention is to offer something different to people of all ages by creating a mini festival feel where families can come down, enjoy some great food, listen to some fantastic music and relax in each other’s company.

“Wednesday was a fantastic event surrounded by sun, surf, and good vibes — buzz was unreal! We have received loads of positive feedback.”

Pop Up Eats will be at Tokomaru on Wednesday, January 16, at the Tokomaru RSA and Country Club Carpark from 5pm to 7pm; and at Waitarere Beach on Sunday, January 20, at Waitarere Domain, 627 Waitarere Beach Road from 5pm to 7pm.
