Popular trio set for Levin folk concert
The September 13 concert at Levin Folk Music Club brings Kate Marshall and Bob Cooper-Grundy, with their guest Neil Billington from 7pm Scottish Society Hall, 155 Bartholomew Road, Levin.
Musicians are welcome to put their name on the open mic blackboard which runs for the first half of the evening. The main concert begins after supper. As September marks the 30th anniversary of the LFMC, the Club is pleased to be celebrating with a special cake cutting and welcome back to pivotal past member, Danny Healey.
Bob and Kate are regular folk festival performers and most recently were at Jazz in Martinborough with Neil Billington.
His astonishing harmonica playing puts the emphasis on the blues and provides more opportunities for musical jams and improvisation.
Bob Cooper-Grundy enjoys playing blues guitar and singing country songs.
He has supported Texas greats such as Guy Clark, Townes van Zandt, Tom Russell, Jimmy LaFave and Robert Junior Lockwood.
Kate Marshall plays violin, accordian and flute and adds beautiful vocals. Together they have been a duo for many years and their song list veers between swing sounds of Texas, mixed with the blues, bluegrass, something approaching jazz and some pop.
Neil Billington is a master of the blues harp and the chromatic harmonica, and covers a range of genres, from old-time pre-war blues through to the great Chicago blues harp masters, to the ballads of the American song-book and jazz standards of Charlie Parker and Miles Davis.
Entry: $10 public/$5 members
