Bambry’s an ambitious youth trainer

Chrissy finished last season with 17 winners including Deerfield

With the clip clop, clip clop of horse’s hooves in the stabling area at the Foxton racecourse, local trainer Chrissy Bambry is on the job to prepare her horses for another day’s track work.

She is used to helping her father Tony Bambry with his horses, and the yearling preparation for the yearling sales, which is very strenuous and tiring because of the long hours needed to get them ready.

This experience gave Chrissy the desire and ambition to obtain a trainer’s license herself.

Chrissy said, “I’ve held a trainer’s license since 2018, and last season I managed to train 17 winners.

One of those winners was current stable star Deerfield, who has won five out of his last six starts, three of which were in a row.”

Deerfield or Kirky as he’s known around the stable, is quite impeccably bred, being by Falkirk from The Dazzler, who is by Centaine from The Grin, who is by Grosvenor from The Dimple.

“He was bred by the Dennis brothers from Broardlands in the Southland region in the South Island, and they’re known to be tough thoroughbreds.”

“All going well Deerfield will be set for the Telegraph Handicap which is run over 1200m, at Trentham in late Janruary,” Bambry said.

Chrissy also has Lord Bouzeron, who went to Australia after we came out of lockdown back in the middle of the year.

The Bambry family has a band of

broodmares which were this year sent north to stallions like Ocean Park, Sweynesse, Raise The Flag and Vatemoss to name a few.

There is also the mare Blondlign who is back in the stable and is due to be seen at the coming trials at Foxton.

Another feather to Chrissy Bambry’s cap came at NZTR annual awards for the 2019-2020 season which Chrissy won the Newcomer to Training Award, which came as a total surprise, Bambry said
