Club bowled over by grant for roof
O¯taki Bowling Club has successfully applied for a grant of $30,830 from New Zealand Community Trust towards upgrading their clubhouse roof.
Member and past president Peter Whitehead said: “O¯ taki Bowling Club’s application for funding to assist in the replacement of the club house roof will enable us to continue to use the club as a community facility and to ensure O¯ taki retains its historic bowling club.
“Now we will be able to fix the deteriorating roof before it stops the ongoing operation of the club,” he said.
“The ongoing improvements will greatly enhance the O¯ taki Bowling Club as an existing community facility and will support its plans to further involve the community in the sport of bowls. I know the commitment that the community has to ensuring the sustainable future of sporting and recreational facilities in the O¯ taki region.”
He said a new club house roof ensured the continuance of the club, so the help of the NZCT has been gratefully accepted.
The primary activity in the club is lawn bowling, comprising social bowling, club competitions, and galas which attract bowlers from Wellington, Ka¯piti, Levin, and Horowhenua.
This supports other community activities at the club, such as businesshouse bowls, summer twilight bowls, petanque, indoor bowls, card group, and monthly barbecues.
The clubhouse provides office facilities, kitchen, toilets, changing rooms, dining area, small bar, meeting facilities, a floor area for indoor bowls, and plenty of room for many more social activities.
The ongoing improvements will greatly enhance the O¯ taki Bowling Club as an existing community facility and will support its plans to further involve the community in the sport of bowls.
