New term will bring changes in class

-

Kia ora Koutou. I write this as we approach the middle of the year. For the students at Waiopehu this means a change in semester and new electives for all students in the second half of the year. Junior students will also change their courses.

We’re looking at providing new and exciting learning experiences for the students through our eElectives such as Car Mechanics, Dress for Success, Pacifica Studies, Women’s Health, a Waiopehu Running Club and knitting.

Next week our new outdoor courts have their surface tiles laid. This will provide an area that can be used for basketball, netball and volleyball, all of which are in the electives programme.

Work also continues on our canteen kitchen where our Free Healthy School Lunches will be prepared. This is due to be completed from the middle of August. The kitchen will also allow our senior catering classes to recommence the successful and popular Restaurant Evenings in Term 3.

Recently seniors in the Student Executive team met leaders from Horowhenua College and Manawatu¯ College.

This was a great opportunity for the students to share their leadership experiences and to discuss future projects they would like to be involved with.

It was a pleasure to see these students working together and reflecting on the future for the district with such inspiring young leaders.

Leaders from Horowhenua and Waiopehu Colleges together with

Year 9 students spoke to contributing schools about what the colleges have to offer.

We will be hosting an Open Day on August 5 for our contributing

schools’ Year 8 students, and an Open Evening for families on August 4. This gives students and parents in the region an opportunity to make an informed decision about their college

education in 2022.

Finally we are looking forward to our Junior Showcase Evening in the last week of term. We will be showcasing junior work created during

the first semester. Staff will be available to speak to parents of junior as well as senior students.

Best wishes to all,

Guy Reichenbach acting principal
