Genoese Pesto dazzled the judges on Eat Well For Less on TV1 on Tuesday night. The judges were impressed by the authentic recipe and strong basil and parmesan flavour of the Genoese Pesto, naming it their favourite and winner.

Produced by family-owned Genoese Foods for over 28 years at its Levin-based pesto plant, they take home-grown New Zealand basil and parmesan cheese and blend it with olive oil, nuts and garlic to produce this authentic pesto.

“With many fine-dining chefs handmaking their own pesto, it’s not often we get a chance to have such an expert and authentic panel of chefs taste our pesto, what more can you ask for when they say ‘pesto originale’ and ‘I would buy the brand 100 per cent again, it is the real pesto!’

“A little bit goes such a long way, you truly can eat well for less’,” Genoese CEO Andrew Parkin said.

“Pesto is a centuries-old recipe; it is made with a huge amount of passion and love.

“We have always believed we are merely caretakers of the recipe and pride ourselves on giving it that care and respect. It’s not often you get one over Jamie [Oliver, celebrity chef] either, we will savour that for a while too,” Parkin said.

Genoese Pesto can be found in all major supermarkets and food stores.
