Back on track to get the people moving

-

With the increasing number of cars on the road, I often look down the empty railway lines, and think it’s a shame there is no rail service.

They could start by linking north and south of Levin. The wonderful thing about rail is that it can be made mobility scooter, wheelchair, and bicycle friendly.

Then I thought it woud be nice to have a Horowhenua rail service from Shannon to

Manakau, and urban expansion planned with rail in mind. Affordable intensive housing could be built near the rail, in Shannon, Poroutawhao, O¯ hau, Kuku and Manakau, without building any new roads. Electrification of the railway should be expanded at the same pace as the motorway.

It seems to me, all we are likely to get, is more subdivisions, gobbling up more farmland, more roads, more cars, and an empty railway line.
