Building not council owned

-

In our report of the building in Muaūpoko Park the Horowhenua Chronicle quoted various spokesperson stating the building was council-owned. This is incorrect. Horowhenua District Council parks and property manager Arthur Nelson explains:

“Muaūpoko Park is not a council park, it is maintained and administered by the Lake Domain Board, Horowhenua District Council merely undertakes the maintenance of the grounds on behalf of the Lake Domain Board. The building concerned is not a council building. It is our understanding that the building concerned was owned by the Levin Yacht Club who had a lease from the Lake Domain Board to occupy the site but that would need to be confirmed by the Lake Domain Board. “FENZ reported the fire damaged building to council last Wednesday. An inspection was carried out on site and parts of the building were deemed dangerous in accordance with section 121 of the Building Act 2004.

“Council officers arranged for the site to be secured and installed dangerous building notices on the building warning people to keep out. Council has made contact with the Horowhenua Lake Domain Board who manage the Lakes Trust land where this building is located, and who will decide on the future of the building.”
