Maureen and Lily’s new life at Levin Home

-

Maureen Reid and her dog Maltese Sydney Silkie cross Lily have settled into their new life together at Levin War Veterans Home.

They made the move together in December 2021 on the condition that Lily was welcome.

“We looked at three different homes but when I asked about Lily at Levin Home, they clapped their hands! Apparently, they had been on the lookout for a dog for the home so it’s the perfect solution all round,” says Maureen.

Maureen is enjoying the company of the other residents and regularly takes Lily to visit those that struggle to move around.

“I was already familiar with Enliven homes as I used to volunteer running the shop at sister home Reevedon,” says Maureen.

Retail is in her blood as she had her own women’s and children’s wear shops back in the UK before she emigrated in 1974. She still likes a bargain and orders pre-loved clothes online.

Having retained her independence until the age of 91 and only just stopped driving Maureen stays connected with what is happening with friends and family with her phone and tablet.

“I have a new great grandchild, Olivia in Australia. I’ve seen pictures and she’s very tiny but I’m looking forward to watching her grow.”

Maureen also likes to keep up with world news. As she lived through the Liverpool Blitz in WW II, she says things don’t phase her. She has seen a lot in her long and active life and with Lily by her side she is looking forward to more at Levin Home.

Levin War Veterans Home offers rest home, hospital and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. To learn more about the home, located on the corner of Matai and Prouse Streets, visit www.enlivencentral.org.nz or call
