Two Covid cases in district

-

There are two cases of Covid19 currently in Horowhenua — both in Shannon. The first case tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday night and is not a known contact of recent or active cases in MidCentral region, officials said. The second case is a household contact of the initial positive case. A MidCentral Health social media post yesterday said a public health investigation is under way and close contacts were being contacted. As of yesterday, the total number of active cases in the MidCentral region was seven.

MidCentral said it would provide updates if there was a need to release any locations of interest where we need people to self-identify as a close or casual contact. “If you have any symptoms of Covid-19, no matter how mild, please get tested and stay home until you receive a negative result and you are symptom free.”

“As cases of Omicron increase across the country, the advice for casual-contacts now applies to us all. We should all be acting like we could have been unknowingly exposed to Covid-19; monitoring for symptoms and seeking out a test if we do experience any Covid-19 symptoms, no matter how mild.”

“Given this, the national guidance is that we will no longer publicly identify locations of interest that have been classed as casual, these are locations where there is considered to be low-risk of the person with Covid-19 unknowingly infecting others, e.g. supermarket trips.”

“We will continue to report any high-risk locations of interest where we need people to self-identify as a close-contact. We understand that moving to living with Covid-19 is a worrying time for many of us, and we know the anxiety that comes from

each new positive case in the community. We are committed to publishing any of these high-risk locations as soon as we are made aware of them.”

“As a reminder, the vast majority of close-contacts are people who our contact tracers can easily identify and contact (i.e workmates, friends, family) and we do not need to add

these to the Locations of Interest page on the Ministry website.”

The social media post said Covid19 tests will be available today in Levin at the Horowhenua Event Centre from 10am to 3pm, as well as the Central Testing Site at 575 Main Street Palmerston North from 8.30am to 4pm.
