Riding for the Disabled to move

- Janine Baalbergen

Levin’s Riding for the Disabled is preparing to move. Currently based at Speldhurst Country Estate on Kimberley Rd, the organisation decided some time ago it needed to move. Chairman Stephen Oatley said the expanding lifestyle village is putting more and more pressure on RDA.

“It is not that they want us to move. It has been a fantastic home for us until now, but building activities have been creeping closer and closer to our arena and that raises health and safety issues for our clients as well as our horses.

“A kind person has offered us a temporary home on Mako Mako Rd, where we can operate within that property’s existing permits.”

He said talks with others, including Horowhenua District Council, are ongoing regarding a permanent home for Riding for the Disabled. It is hoped any new facility will be big enough to allow the organisation to expand its operations and so better serve the local disabled community.

The facilities at Speldhurst are currently being dismantled.
