Junior teams rise to challenge in Levin
U15 the only loss for Horowhenua-Ka¯ piti
Horowhenua-Ka¯piti junior representative cricket teams performed well against their Manawatu¯ counterparts in a series of games in Levin at the weekend.
Three games were played at Donnelly Park and one at Weraroa Domain.
The Y8 home team scored 183 before bowling out Manawatu¯ U13 for 63, the Y7 HK team cruised past their target of 188, while the Year 9 and 10 HK team amassed 376 before bowling their opposition out for 213.
The latter match was notable for HK middle-order batsman Ollie Jessop scoring 130.
Horowhenua-Ka¯piti's only defeat came in the U15 grade when scoring 198 in chasing a total of 232. Ironically, the star player for Manawatu¯ was Lachlan Trask who compiled a fine 95. Trask, who attends Palmerston North Boys High School, had previously played all his schoolboy cricket in Horowhenua until this year. He was denied a deserved century after being run out by former teammate Max Culleton when attempting a quick single.
Max Hart bowled well for HK, removing the Manawatu¯ openers cheaply and finishing with figures of 3-28 from his 10 overs.
